Narrabeen multi-use trail

Narrabeen pedestrian trail

AW Maritime with SMC Marine delivered a curved multi-use pedestrian and cycle path of approximately 160m built over Narrabeen Lagoon, an environmentally sensitive site in Sydney.

Services provided by AW Maritime included the design of all piled foundations, structural precast concrete and aluminium elements, as well as the preparation of all structural drawings, technical specifications and design reports. The design aimed to minimize piling where possible and reduce onsite lifting weights.

The pedestrian bridge consists of a timber framed FRP deck with architectural sandstone planter boxes forming both Eastern and Western abutments. While the curved nature of the bridge appears random, the hidden repeatable pattern allowed for ease of construction using a “build out” approach with no need for heavy floating plant that would have otherwise disturbed the protected seagrasses. The finished colour scheme of the balustrade panels helped the bridge to blend in with the surrounding flora.
