PORTARLINGTON’S mussel industry is set to benefit when construction starts on a new $3 million pier in the seaside town.
Environment Minister Lisa Neville said construction on the 175m long and 4.5m wide pier would start next month. The pier is the first structure to be built as part of stage one of the Portarlington Safe Harbour development. The new structure will support increased vehicle load limits and separate pedestrians from cars, allowing the aquaculture industry to increase productivity.
