City of Port Philip engaged AWM to provide consultancy services for the renourishment of Middle Park Beach and also to obtain Marine and Coastal Act consent as well as other statutory permits such as Park Victoria’s Work Permit, dredging-specific permits, and site-specific approvals (consideration of Native Title).
As part of the MaCA Application process, AWM provided detailed environmental, technical and regulatory documentation to support compliance. AWM conducted a coastal process study to integrate in the design along with the design parameters that CoPP has provided. The recommended design profile was developed using SBeach modelling to ensure resilience against coastal erosion. AWM calculated the required sand volume using Civil3D, engaged Gertzel Surveyors to conduct hydrographic surveys, and worked with CEE for sediment sampling, current seabed habitat and laboratory testing of the proposed borrow area. The MACA consent was granted within the 60 business day period (and included one request for information).
The project also included addressing Cultural Heritage Management Plan (CHMP) requirements, obtaining pre-application advice on planning permits from CoPP, securing a consent letter from the Crown Land Managers, and aligning with the Council’s stakeholder engagement plan to ensure smooth progress and community support.
