AW Maritime completed an investigation of dredging and disposal options at Cresser Reserve, Altona. The site sits immediately adjacent to the western side of Altona Safe Boat Harbour. The accumulated sand was restricting water access to the Altona Yacht Club and limits the flushing of the Melbourne Water outfall. The scope of services included:
- Assessment of retaining structure (groyne) options to limit future sand build up, including materials, length, and location. The assessment of groyne options included a review of local coastal processes.
- Assessment of the dredging required to provide safe navigation access to the yacht club and to improve the discharge of the Melbourne Water drain.
- Completion of sediment sampling and analysis to determine the nature of the material to be dredged and level of contaminants.
- Assessment of onshore and intertidal dredged material disposal / reuse options.
